FAQ - Excel: How do I sort the values in columns or rows?

Problem:

How can I sort values in Excel that are in columns or rows?

Solution:

  1. To highlight the entire data range you would like to sort, begin by clicking your left mouse button on the first data cell and holding it down.


  2. Drag the mouse across all of the remaining row or column until all of the desired data is selected, and let go of the mouse button.


  3. The two buttons are located on the Standard toolbar.

    Sort Ascending (1 to 9, A to Z) will organize your data in ascending order beginning in the first cell that you selected.

    OR

    Sort Descending (9 to 1, Z to A) will organize your data in descending order beginning in the first cell that you selected.
