FAQ - Windows 2000: How to create shortcuts

Problem:

How do I create a shortcut on my desktop?

Solution:

To create a shortcut for a program do the following:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click on Programs.
  3. Highlight the program you want to create a shortcut for.
  4. Using the right mouse button, drag the program to desktop.
  5. A window will come up.
  6. Select Create Shortcut(s) Here.

To create a shortcut from scratch:

  1. Right click on your desktop.
  2. Select New
  3. Select Shortcut
  4. This will bring up a Create Shortcut dialog box.
  5. Type in the path of the file you want to create a shortcut of, or click Browse to search your hard drive for the file you want.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. This will create the icon on your desktop.
