FAQ - Windows 2000: Install Network Printer


How do I install a network printer on a Windows 2000 machine?


  1. Click on Start.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on Printers.
  4. Double click on the Add Printer icon.
  5. Click Next on the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard window.
  6. Make sure that Local printer is checked.
  7. Remove check from Automatically detect my printer.
  8. Click Next.
  9. On the Select the Printer Port screen, select the Create a New Port option.
  10. From the pull down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click on the Next button on the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
  13. On the Add Port screen enter the printer IP address of the printer you are trying to connect to.
  14. Click Next.
  15. The printer should be found automatically (it must be turned on). If it is not, select your printer network interface from the Standard Device Type drop-down menu and click Next.
  16. A screen will now appear with the configuration of the printer.
  17. Click Finish to continue the installation, or Back to change the settings.
