FAQ - Windows: Changing WinXP Power Options

Problem:

How do you change desktop power features in Windows XP to save power?

Solution:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click on Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel window select Power Options.
  4. In the Power Options dialog box, click on the Power Schemes tab.
  5. If you're doing this on your desktop computer, set to Home/Office Desk. You can use the drop down menus below to set the amount of time before the computer will perform actions such as turning off its monitor, turning off the hard disks, putting the system on standby, or hibernating the computer.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click OK.
