FAQ - OCR - What is OCR?

What is OCR (Optical Character Recognition)?

OCR is a scanning term that stands for Optical Character Recognition.

Most scanners on the market today come with OCR software that allows you to scan a page of text and then import it as a text file into a word processing program. This can allow you to enter text into a word processor in one shot without having to type it all in.

Not all OCR programs work the same. Some scanners and software are able to scan handwriting with very few errors, while others require clear easily readable print in the source document.

For more information on OCR, consult your scanner's owner's manual.
